Why see Little Miss Sunshine?
European Premiere
The Oscar-winning hit of 2006, Little Miss Sunshine, gets a musical makeover in 2019 as it lights up London's Arcola Theatre in its European premiere this spring! Running for a strictly limited seven-week run, before hitting the road on a UK tour, Little Miss Sunshine reunites us with the Hoover family as they travel across the States for one very important beauty contest.
First debuting in San Diego in 2011, Arcola Theatre artistic director, Mehmet Ergen, takes over the reigns as he directs this brand new production. Written by Tony Award-winners James Lapine (Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George) and William Finn (Falsettos), Little Miss Sunshine is an uplifting, modern classic that celebrates our uniqueness and honours the similarities that bring us together.
What is Little Miss Sunshine about?
Like most families the Hoovers certainly have their fair share of troubles, but when young Olive gets an unexpected invite to compete in the Little Miss Sunshine competition the family pile into their rickety yellow camper van for the journey of a lifetime. As they bumble along the 800-mile route from New Mexico to California the family must compete with breakdowns and heartbreak to get their precious little girl to the pageant on time.
