Les Dennis joins Micheal Ball in Hairspray

Just announced: Les Dennis will round out the cast of the much-anticipated revival of Hairspray. Due to open at the London Coliseum this summer, the production formerly was to star Have I Got News For You team captain Merton, who has sadly had to pass, citing projects he had locked down before lockdown (get it?).
No bother though, because another familiar face from the box has stepped into the breach; none other than Family Fortunes star, Les Dennis. A mainstay of '90s telly, Dennis showed his acting chops to a wider audience in Ricky Gervais' Extras back in 2005, gaining rave reviews. Now he'll get to show another side as he takes on the role of beleaguered dad Wilbur Turnblad, opposite Micheal Ball as his larger than life wife, Edna.
Hairspray also stars Marisha Wallace, Rita Simmons, and Lizzie Bea as main character Tracy.
