Matilda The Musical Reaches a Revoltingly Impressive 5000 Performances in the West End

There's much more than a little bit naughty going on at the Cambridge Theatre!
Her mum chose looks, and she chose books - and what a payoff it was! Matilda The Musical is celebrating a magical 5000 performances in London's West End! The Royal Shakespeare Company's smash-hit show is now in its 14th year, making it the 15th longest-running West End production of all time. Still pulling in packed houses, Matilda is booking through to May 2026.
With over 12 million people joining Matilda to take down the Trunchbull across 100 cities around the world, the magic is far from over. A brand-new UK and Ireland tour is set to kick off this autumn, opening at Leicester Curve on 6 October 2025.
School's in for Matilda!
With a book by Dennis Kelly and unforgettable songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical is directed by Matthew Warchus, with designs by Rob Howell, choreography by Peter Darling, and musical wizardry from Christopher Nightingale. Lighting is by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker, and stage trickery by illusionist Paul Kieve.
Matilda, the central character, is a little girl with astonishing wit and intelligence for her young age not to mention, psychokinetic powers. She's despised by her own hideously selfish parents but finds a kindred spirit in her shy schoolteacher, Miss Honey. Miss Honey also has demons to face in the form of the outrageously callous headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.
Over the course of her first term at school, both teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other's lives, as they try to foil the dastardly plans of Trunchbull - and Matilda's parents.
This is one classroom you'll want to be in!
