Oklahoma! at Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Why see Oklahoma!?

Oh, What A Beautiful Musical!

On Sale April 19th

The Great American Musical turns 80 this year and the West End's Theatre Royal Drury Lane is celebrating with this exciting concert staging, starring Ted Lasso's Bad Boy-with-a-Heart Phil Dunster and musical theatre queen Zizzi Strallen! Directed by Bill Deamer, and featuring the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, the production will run for three wonderful performances, commemorating Rogers and Hammerstein's first outing together in a pairing that went on to change theatrical history forever.

Oklahoma where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain

When Oklahoma made its debut on Broadway in 1943, critics praised it as a musical breakthrough. Its magnetising mix saw story, song and dance combine into a masterpiece of theater that led the New York Drama League to herald it as the "Best Musical of the century."

Fast forward to today and appetite remains just as strong for this all singing all dancing love story that sees the self-assured cowboy, Curly compete with a feisty farmhand in a bid to take a young farm girl to a dance. As Curly and Laurey prepare to start a new life together in a different state, they discover that the road to love isn't easy and excitement and peril lurking around many corners... with glorious songs we love to sing along to including Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' and the fun-fuelled title song Oklahoma!

Rodgers and Hammerstein, went on to create Carousel, South Pacific and The Sound of Music after the success of Oklahoma, although it was always considered one of their most innovative works.

Blue Grass Country

I love the film and the Hugh Jackman/Maureen Lipman revival but I don’t need another version of the same. I loved this production; all round amazing arrangements and performances. You don’t need to always leave the theatre ‘on a high’ so I don’t mind going home feeling shocked. I don’t know why Curly became a murderer and that’s puzzling. Didn’t stop me wanting to see it again. ... Read more
