A Powerful Examination Of Life & Death
English playwright Stephen Bill's heavy-hitting drama Curtains enjoys a new revival at Kingston's Rose Theatre as part of their latest 2018/19 season. The poignant mediation on life, death and the familial tensions in between, examines the complicated relationships of a family in turmoil as they gather to celebrate their matriarch's 86th birthday.
Said matriarch Ida isn't at all thrilled to be the centre of a "birthday tea". Her family's efforts to maintain a cheerful atmosphere become desperate when it's clear that Ida, feeling she has lived too long, is racked with pain and only lucid for brief periods of time. Away from the family for 25 years, her daughter Katherine attends, aware of the promise she made to her mother that she'd not let her suffer through the pain of a slow death...
