Curtains - 14 January 2020
The cast were brilliant, Sang there heats out, really good performance. Given better material they would rise to the challenge. The set designers must have been working on a tight budget, there was a lack of colour. The same must be said of the costume designers, a lack of colour in the cowboy and ladies outfits. The Director, Producer and Script Writer need to introduce more pace in the script, Less pregnant pauses. There was some humorous punch lines, there needs to be more. Back story, WHY WAS THE MUSICAL CALLED ROBIN HOOD ?

I went to see this play last night. The quotes of it being “hilariously funny†were woefully wide of the mark. Despite boasting an impressive array of acting talent, there seemed to be a disconnect between the characters which were one dimensional and unengaging, as was the script. I overheard a member of the audience saying he had seen better sixth form plays, a view which echoed that of myself and my partner.
The first play I've ever felt like walking out of
I can quite honestly say I have never ever felt so desperate for a play to end, having been to many performances (from am-dram to the West End) in the past. It genuinely felt like I'd just finished running a marathon by the time the lights finally came up. I am inclined to believe it was a combination of every element that contributed to this car crash. Incredibly poor and disconnected acting, terrible directing (resulting in random, poorly timed movement round the stage and completely unnatural actions throughout) and a script that seems to drag on for several days - particularly in the second half - covering the same disconnected topics relentlessly until you were begging for the same fate as the character that snuffs it on stage. Having never written a review of any play in the past, I was so compelled to warn future victims against spending two hours of their lives at The Rose for this performance, I have returned straight home and written this. You have been warned!
