Andrew Scott's West End Return

Selling fast! Don't miss out

Andrew Scott makes his long-awaited stage return in this brand-new adaptation of Chekhov's masterpiece from Simon Stephens. Directed by Sam Yates, with design from Rosanna Vize, Scott takes on every role in this beautifully realised universal tale of familial strife, dashed hopes, ennui, and unrequited love.

With an engagement at the Richmond Theatre and the Duke of Yorks Theatre this September, don't miss your chance to see Scott live - he truly is one of the finest stage actors London-Theatreland has ever had the joy of watching!

What is the story?

If you thought your family reunions were tough, spare a thought for Vanya, whose life is turned upside down by the appearance of his late sister's husband and his glamorous new wife Yelena. Beautiful performance, truly imaginative production

I read Uncle Vanya 20 years ago, so I was worried going in that I wouldn't be able to follow a one-man act of a show with such complex emotions. I was wrong. Andrew Scott delivers a rather awe-inspiring performance, turning each character into its own unique person, but in subtle ways that don't feel like caricature. You're playing both characters. The lighting is fantastic, and I loved the intimacy of the theater. However, I agree that it was, at times, difficult to hear. Tip- MUCH of the action happens stage right, so if you buy obstructed tickets, be aware that you might miss things depending on where you're sitting. ... Read more

Not just a star vehicle for Scott. But it is a star vehicle for Scott and that can get slightly in the way. Best people to see it: don't know much else of Scott's work, don't be too mad on Chekhov, but do read at least the Wikipedia summary of the play first. Then you'll love it. You surface out of it amazed that he can bring so much intensity, mainly entertained royally but with occasional longueurs. And they seem to have miked him up ... Read more
