Endgame

Wonderful comic performances from Alan Cumming and Daniel Radcliffe breath new life into Beckett's masterful play.

Why see Endgame?
My old man's in a dustbin
Daniel Radcliffe makes his Old Vic return alongside Tony winner Alan Cumming in this brand new revival of Samuel Beckett's iconic black comedy, presented in a double bill with his rarely played Rough for Theatre II.
Directed by Richard Jones, the duo star as Clov and Hamm, a servant and master trapped in a co-dependent spiral of savagery and misplaced hope. In their bleak universe, they're also joined by Hamm's parents, Nag and Nell, each spewing forth their own bile from matching dustbins.
Safe to say it's one of Beckett's more surreal creations, but no less enjoyable if you're able to stomach its macabre themes. It also marks a welcome return to this sceptered isle for Cumming, who was last seen in the West End in 2006's Bent.

Surprising radical absurdity
Walking past the long line of fans queuing up outside the Old Vic stage door, I couldn't help but wonder if they knew exactly what they were letting themselves in for when they bought tickets to see Endgame.
