Why see Cabaret?

In Here, life is beautiful

Put down the knitting, the book, and the broom and come to the cabaret! 2020 sees a brand new tour Kander and Ebb's showstopping musical, directed by the National Theatre's Rufus Norris. Starring Celebrity Masterchef winner John Patridge as the wickedly funny Emcee, Kara Lily Hayworth (Cilla Black the Musical) as the vivacious Sally Bowles and Anita Harris as Fraulein Schneider, it's time to head down to the smoky surround of the Kit Kat Club for a night of song, dance and hedonism!

What is the story?

A doomed romance in a city that dances on the edge of oblivion, Cabaret is one of the true classics of musical theatre, weaving together strands of debauchery and terror to capture a moment in time, that despite the warning, is ever in danger of being repeated.

Featuring Kander and Ebb's unforgettable music (including 'Wilkomen' 'Maybe This Time' and of course, the titular 'Cabaret') and a book by Joe Masteroff, (based on the novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood,) it is the story of an American writer and an entrancing showgirl who find themselves in Weimar era Berlin, as the shadow of fascism grows in the country. From inside the decadence of the Kit Kat club, they and their fellow artists, creatives, freaks and weirdos attempt to eek every last bit of freedom before the Nazis take over.

A couple of tips

Wonderful show, lots of energy. However two really important things to know; Don’t buy the pre-show food packs, the value for money is very poor. I bought mine before arriving and noticed almost nobody in the audience had them. The packs are tiny and not worth anywhere near the £50. There barely feed one person, let alone two. Secondly, the toilets issue, mentioned a few times on here. It’s a big problem as there are huge queues and you may spend the entire interval queuing and not enjoying the atmosphere. There aren’t enough and there are very small. ... Read more

Cabaret

Saw this show on Saturday. Absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to see it again. As well as the outstanding cast and the pre dancers and musicians the staff are the most accommodating and helpful people ever. ... Read more

Amazing Performances - Uncomfortable Seats

You enter from the basement and head to the bar area. There are performers entertaining you, they are fantastic but there isn't really enough room and the security are quite surly getting you to move back, especially as you have no idea what I going on at first! The show itself is brilliant, the Emcee and supporting dancers are spectacular. The atmosphere was fantastic and the waiting staff very attentive and professional. The only gripe I have is that at £200 a ticket for row C table seats it was not possible to sit straight with your legs under the table because of the ice bucket bracket and because they have squeezed too many seats in too tightly you could not move to the side because the person right next to you, (the seats are touching) was also trying to get comfortable. Sitting twisted in this way was very uncomfortable and detracted from our enjoyment. Rows A & B had much much more room between the tables. Avoid row C at all costs it is not worth the money. ...
