Close Up - The Twiggy Musical

Why see Close Up - The Twiggy Musical?

World premiere

The Menier Chocolate Factory invites us to step back in time to the swinging '60s as they host the world premiere of this new biographical musical about the one and only Twiggy! Written and directed by Ben Elton and soundtracked by a slew of era-appropriate hits, discover the story of the iconic model, from her early days in working-class Neasdon to an international pop-culture phenomenon, who became as synonymous with the decade as The Beatles.

We admit the word icon gets bandied about a lot these days but in the case of Lesley Lawson, A.K.A Twiggy, it's completely correct! During the heyday of the '60s and '70s, her visage came to embody the era, soulfully staring out across the years, empowering women and girls, and is to this day a highly sought-after model, author, broadcaster, and activist.

Deserves another run

Watched the final night of the run, what fun, loved the songs, and thought Darren Day really did sing Nillson’s without you so well. In a larger venue it will require a bigger cast and improved dancing but we, and I think nearly everyone in the theatre had a really good night, and that’s what theatre should be. ... Read more

Twiggy the Musical

I went to see Twiggy the Musical on Friday 13 October 2023. I was pleasantly surprised it was a wonderful evening the lead was brilliant as were all the cast. The play drew you in and I felt really relaxed as if I was at home watching the show. I learnt a lot about Twiggy and will recommend the show to all that I meet. ... Read more

Nostalgic and very entertaining.

Our first visit to the Menier and the theatre felt intimate and guarantees close up views. What a fantastic show !. Ignore the professional critics as they have no idea what true entertainment is. Elena Skye plays Twiggy superbly and has real charisma in the lead role. She is supported by a fantastic cast and great choreography. Anyone who loved the hits of the 60,s and 70,s plus one or two more up to date songs will love this show. Ben Elton’s script is clever and funny moving her story at a good pace and yes the music can be a bit cheesy in its placement, but it works. The singing is excellent and the set is simple but effective. My wife and I are fortunate to see west end shows regularly but this turned out to be one of the most enjoyable we have seen in years. It’s only on till November so I urge you to see it. You will not be disappointed. ... Read more
