Romeo And Juliet

Send in the Clowns! Romeo And Juliet finished at Garrick Theatre on August 13, 2016

Why see Romeo And Juliet?

the ultimate love story.

Not content with playing the unashamedly cute couple in Disney's live action Cinderella this year, Richard Madden and Lily James are pairing up yet again (!) for a revival of Romeo and Juliet, at the Garrick Theatre. Joined by Derek Jacobi as Mercutio, the play is set to throw out prejudices about age. The play was last seen on Broadway starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad as the doomed lovers, and is set to take London by storm, in what will be a bumper season year for Branagh at the Garrick.

Please note, as of August 5, 2016, Richard Madden will be replaced by Freddie Fox due to the advice of doctors.

What is it about?

Two warring families in old Verona are ordered on pain of death by the Prince to put aside their differences and end the skirmishes for the sake of their city. However, the families, the Capulets and Montagues have other ideas. When the son of the Montagues, Romeo, spots the daughter of the Capulets, Juliet at a party they are instantly besotted with each other and vow not to let their families get in the way of true love.

However, simmering tensions between the families explodes after the two elope, and a double murder sees Romeo exiled outside the city, and Juliet betrothed to another. Can the two lovers find a way back to each other, or are they doomed to live out the curse of their families' actions?
