Why see Romeo and Juliet?
Tom holland returns to the West End
Swapping the high-flying pursuits of a certain Spider-man for the stage, Tom Holland is set to make his West End return in The Jamie Lloyd Company's staging of Romeo and Juliet, coming to the Duke of Yorks Theatre this summer. No stranger to the bright lights of the capital's stages, Tom previously starred as the titular Billy in the long-running Billy Elliot the Musical. Though there might be a little less dancing, we're sure this dynamic production will be more than enough to display the Hollywood star's talents.
Presented by the Jamie Lloyd Company, the show is set to be directed by Lloyd, with set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham and video design and cinematography by Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom.
What is the story?
One of William Shakespeare's most recognisable plays, Romeo and Juliet tells the tragic tale of the titular young lovers, each hailing from warring clans, the Montague and the Capulets. As their love story plays out in secret against the background of their family's battle, they find themselves driven to extremes to cement their star-crossed romance.
