Why see Noises Off ?

40 farcical years of Noises Off

Celebrate 40 years of Michael Frayn's riotous backstage comedy as this glorious production from Bath's Theatre Royal sweeps into the West End in January 2023, following a glowing tour. Starring Felicity Kendal, Jonathan Coy, and Alexander Hanson, this new iteration of Frayn's love letter to the theatre is directed by Linsay Posner. A golden classic of British comedy, enjoy a whirlwind of banter, face and theatrical chaos as a troupe of actors shamble through the final rehearsals of the fictional play 'Nothing On', before opening night in Weston-Super-Mare.

First performed in 1982, the iconic, Olivier Award-winning production is the ultimate tribute to the unpredictability of the theatre. The story starts mere hours before the opening of an adult comedy romp called 'Nothing On' while a touring company hurriedly runs through a final dress rehearsal. The cast is loveable but entirely inept, and even though they can't remember their lines, entrances, and exits, you can't help but root for them as they attempt to put on a shambles of a show.

Immaculate timing

We saw this yesterday evening, having seen the original back in the 80s. The cast maintain the pace and timing throughout and the physicality is standout. It really is an example of great British farce. An American sitting next to us, said in the interval “I got about half of the jokes”. We got them all! ... Read more
