THE MOLIERE-WINNING PLAY COMES TO LONDON

Not to be confused with Laurie Slade's controversial play at the Trafalgar Studios, this searing Moliere Award-winning play returns to the West End once again for a strictly limited run from February 24th.

What is it about?

Starring Kenneth Cranham as the eponymous dad of the title, this is a touching portrait of an 80-year old man who lives with his adult daughter and her husband - but his memory is failing him. Was he a tap dancer, or an engineer in his youth?

Add to this confusion that he permanently lives in his pajamas and he simply cannot locate his watch, the Father is doubting himself and the life he has led so far, and the life he is living now. This play returned to the West End in London this summer and last year earned rave reviews by the British press. It is set to be staged on Broadway next year with veteran actor Frank Langella in the title role.

The Father is the winner of France's highest theatrical honour, the 2014 Moliere Award for Best Play, and received an unprecedented eight five star reviews from major national newspaper critics when it premiered at Theatre Royal Bath and then at north London's Tricycle Theatre. Translated into English by Christopher Hampton, the play is directed by James Macdonald with design by Miriam Buether.

Reviews

Our review

brutal, powerful, unforgettable

Highly memorable and achingly beautiful, The Father is an innovative exploration of dementia that uses technology very subtly to help intensify the drama.
