It first pirouetted its way into our hearts on the big screen, and is now dancing its way to stage stardom on the West End! Billy Elliot: The Musical brings to life the heart-warming tale of a young working-class kid who dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. The only catch? He's a boy!
Long before we had Matilda or Charlie, Billy Elliot was the West End's most successful family film-to-stage adaptation. Told against the political backdrop of the 1980s miner's strike, Billy Elliot is a story that will move and inspire you in equal measure, and one you won't soon forget!
Eleven-year old Billy lives in a deprived town in North East England, a place where a man's role includes boxing, mining, drinking beer - and certainly not something like dancing. But poor Billy can't help but feel drawn to the art form when he happens to watch a ballet class after one of his boxing lessons.
Brought up by a single father and older brother without a mother's touch, Billy does not want to box, but is enthralled by ballet when watches the class taught by the brash, but big hearted Sandra Wilkinson. With steely determination he attempts to prove his father, brother and community wrong, by becoming a dancer with infinite promise.
Since it premiered in the West End in 2005, the production has been enjoyed by millions of fans and been taken on tour around the world, including Australia, Canada, the USA and even South Korea!
Billy Elliot: The Musical reunites the team behind the award-wining 2000 film; director Stephen Daldry, writer Lee Hall, choreographer Peter Darling and producer Jon Finn. Adding to that the musical mastery of Sir Elton John, the highly acclaimed film has transformed into an all-singing, all-dancing stage spectacular with a heart of gold.

<p>Ever since seeing Jamie Bell loose his inhibitions in Stephen Daldry's wonderful film about a boy who discovers Ballet is not just for girls, I have been interested in seeing this translated to the stage.
