The Rise & Fall of Little Voice

The Rise & Fall of Little Voice at Vaudeville Theatre

Why see The Rise & Fall of Little Voice?

STAR-STUDDED CASTING OF A MULTI AWARD-WINNING PLAY

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Jim Cartwright's 1992 play which won both The Evening Standard and Oliver Awards for Best Comedy in 1992, was created, in part, to showcase Jane Horrocks's astonishing talent for vocal impersonations. In this spectacular revival by director Terry Johnson (La Cage aux Folles, Rain Man, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), the title role is played by X-Factor finalist Diana Vickers who makes her West End debut. Award- winning actress Lesley Sharp (TV's Clocking Off and Bob and Rose) plays Little Voice's mother and the charismatic Marc Warren (BBC's Hustle and Life on Mars) plays the sleazy Ray Say.

Little Voice is a shy, reclusive north-country girl who spends most of her time in her room, playing her beloved late father's old LP records, and impersonating the divas like Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Cilla Black. When her remarkable talent for pitch-perfect imitation is discovered by sly talent agent Ray Say, he thinks she is his ticket to success. LV thinks that this is her ticket to a better life and stars working at a local working men's club. Stardom awaits, as well as a chance at a new life, free from her out-of-control, man-consuming mother. LV tries, but realises that all she wants is to be loved, to be normal and to be true to herself.

Little Voice

I attended the show on saturday 9th and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Lesley sharp was on top form, hilarious throughout, marc warren was exceptional, and Diana Vickers...she was amazing. For this to be her debut in theatre, you never would have guessed. She played the part to perfection and when she sang it truly was a wonderful experience. Well done to all of the cast and thank you for a great night at the Vaudeville! ... Read more

Fantastic

This play drew us in from the first minute and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Lesley Sharp and Mark Warren were fantastic as ever but Diana Vickers was an absolute joy to watch and her voice made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Whatever is said about reality shows we need to be thankful that they brought this little gem into our world and are sure that this is just the beginning of a long and successful career for Diana. ...
