Coven
The most infamous witch trial in history
The most infamous witch trial in history
In a land scorched by fear and suspicion, Coven conjures a haunting new retelling of one of history's most infamous witch trials. Olivier Award-winning director Miranda Cromwell, Grammy Award-winner Daisy Chute and actor and playwright Rebecca Brewer come together to create a brand new musical diving into a buried chapter of British history, through a fiercely contemporary lens. With a predominantly female creative team and a cast of voices long silenced, this production gives form to the fire that history tried to extinguish.
It's the 17th century and England is gripped by fear. In Pendle, Lancashire, a young girl named Jennet becomes the star witness, giving evidence in a witch trial that will claim the lives of her own family. Two decades later, Jennet finds herself imprisoned, accused of the very crime she once helped to prosecute. Surrounded by women whose stories mirror her own, Jennet must confront the truth behind the legends and the weight of her choices.
