Shrek The Musical at Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Why see Shrek The Musical?

THE MUST-SEE MUSICAL THAT?S LARGER THAN LIFE

Based on the Oscar-winner animation film, Shrek the Musical is an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza about an ogre and his love for a princess. Delightfully enchanting, hugely entertaining and definitely larger than life, the much-loved musical comedy is a brilliant blend of light-hearted humour and satire, making it a great show for the whole family. Shrek the Musical captures all the charm and charisma of the film, and features an all-new musical score, save the Shrek anthem 'I'm a Believer'.

The West End production of Shrek the Musical sees screen and stage actor Nigel Lindsay in the title role. Actress, singer and presenter (and judge on Britain?s Got Talent) Amanda Holden plays the lovely Princess Fiona. British comedian, actor and rapper Richard Blackwood plays the talkative Donkey, while the short and sour Lord Farquaad is played by EastEnders star Nigel Harman.

WHAT IS SHREK THE MUSICAL ABOUT?

Shrek, a large green ogre, lives alone in his swamp. When a whole host of fairytale creatures, evicted from the Kingdom of Duloc, begin squatting on his land, Shrek sets off to address the matter with Lord Farquaad. On his way he rescues Donkey from a gang of Farquaad's ruffians. The grateful Donkey offers his friendship and guidance to the lost and grumpy ogre. At Castle Duloc, Farquaad demands that in exchange for getting his swamp back, Shrek must rescue Princess Fiona (whom Farquaad intends to marry).

Shrek and his unlikely steed set off, overcome numerous obstacles and rescue the feisty and demanding princess. Gradually, as they travel back to the castle, the princess and ogre grow more and more fond of each other. But misunderstands are rife, and Fiona has a secret. Can love override their differences?

DID YOU KNOW?

Both Shrek the Musical and the 2001 film are based on a 1990s book the famous New Yorker cartoonist and author, William Steig.

Fantastic

Wife and granddaughter went. Between them they have seen most of the top end shows. They don't normally sit in the circle. But we're advised better views than the back of the stalls. Tickets were bought from the discounted ticket booth Leicester square. So good value. Would they recommend the show. Yes very much so. Asked what could be improved. Nothing ... Read more

Good but richard Blackwood looked bored!

We went to watch Shrek this Feb 2013 half term. Although the children enjoyed most of the show (Dragon and lord farquaad - amazingly funny - saved the show) Richard Blackwood as Donkey was not great. we thought that for most of the time he looked like he was either grumpy, bored or just simply was disinterested. It was a shame because the role is so funny! He didn't do it justice. ... Read more
