Salome

Salome, Salome dance for me
Why see Salome?
A Frenzied Dance of Death
Exceptionally bloody and twisted, there is nothing quite like Richard Strauss' influential and passionate take on Oscar Wilde's scandalous play, revived in this new production from the ENO and theatre director Adena Jacob.
Trapped in a warped cycle of violence and abandonment, the beautiful Princess Salome is a guest in the palace of Herod, where she wreaks havoc with her demands and petulance. Fascinated by the prisoner Jochanaan, she stops at nothing to possess his heart, asking King Herod to help her, trading her wish for the dance of the seven veils. With themes of eroticism, taboo and brutality, Salome isn't for everyone, but those that dare will likely not be let down by the return of this searing new staging.
