The classic film becomes an illumating opera this Christmas!
The London Coliseum is transformed into the All-American town of Bedford Falls in this opera adaptation of Frank Capra's genre-defining 1946 celluloid classic. By Jake Heggie, with a libretto by Gene Scheer, the illuminating tale of George Bailey and his earthly woes is given new life as Angel-in-training Clara shows him what living truly means.
First released in 1946, It's A Wonderful Life has become a festive necessity, a reminder for us all to take stock of what we have amid the chaos of the season. Don't miss this theatrical new production that will no doubt prove nostalgic yet intriguing when set to such an expressive medium.
Christmas Eve in Bedford Falls
On a bridge, the desperate George Bailey contemplates his end, unable to see a way out of his problems. From her perch in the heavens, Angel Second Class Clara hears his prayers and hoping to gain her wings, comes to earth in his aid. Taking him through a timeline where he never was born, she shows George the impact of his actions on those around him and what it really takes to make a wonderful life.
