Worlds collide in Shakespeare's darkly comic and rarely staged Troilus and Cressida, coming to the Globe Theatre this summer! In his Globe debut, director Owen Horsley, the man behind Twelfth Night at Regent's Park Open Air, peels back the polished surface of heroism, exposing the greed, ego and absurdity that fuels the war.
Against the backdrop of the Trojan War, romance blossoms between Trojan prince Troilus and the sharp-witted Cressida. They swear undying love, but in a war where loyalty is fragile and reputations are currency, nothing is ever that simple. Eight years into the siege of Troy, the once-glorious battle has decayed into a stagnant, meaningless conflict. The Greeks are disillusioned, their camp a brutal wasteland of vanity and infighting, while Troy clings to an idealized past that no longer exists. In this thrilling and savage satire, Shakespeare asks: what happens when the myths we build our world upon start to crumble?
