Flashdance The Musical
Flashdance is definitely worth checking out for the choreography, the performances of the principals and the unashamed homage to classic 80s tunes.
You soon won't have to bother with going to the cinema. Just wait till the stage version comes round.

Slick, sensational and pulsating, Flashdance the Musical is a fast-paced film-to-stage extravaganza about the dance ambitions of a young working-class woman. Based on the Paramount Pictures film by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszerhas, this smash-hit musical celebrates dance as a source of liberation, holding onto dreams and love against all odds.
Directed by Nikolai Foster, and with spectacular and breathtaking choreography by Arlene Phillips (Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Starlight Express, Strictly Come Dancing), Flashdance the Musical features an iconic score including 'Maniac', 'Manhunt', 'I Love Rock & Roll' and the Academy Award winning 'Flashdance- What a Feeling'. Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, a trained ballet dancer, plays the sassy Alex Owens, and Matt Willis from boy-band Busted plays the love interest Nick Hurley.
Set in Pittsburgh USA, 18 year-old Alex Owens works a day-job as an apprentice welder in a failing steel mill, but by night she's a 'flashdancer' in a showbar. Alex dreams of becoming a ballerina and longs to be accepted to the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. With a bit of help and encouragement from her friends, her meddling mother and her boss' son Nick - posh young man who shows solidarity with the flashdancers and with whom Alex becomes romantically involved - Alex pursues her dreams.
But she was born on the wrong sides of the track, and Dr. Kool, the showbar owner, is tightening his reigns as a newly opened strip club lures his dancers away, adding new challenges to Alex's life. Can she earn a place in the school, allowing her to permanently trade her welder-wear for legwarmers and leotards?
The rock musical is based on 1983 American romantic drama film Flashdance, which was met with mixed reviews but turned out to be a box office success.
