Taiwan's premiere performing arts company returns to London!
A joyful celebration of Taiwanese culture, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre combines three key elements of this enigmatic country's sophistication from meditation to martial arts to modern dance in a fusion performance that incorporates the ancient with the contemporary.
This new piece, Songs of the Wanderers is a reverent celebration of Asian culture, whilst combining it with Georgian music from the Rustavi choir, making for a truly international flavour. The highlight of the show is the dropping of three tons of shimmering grains of rice to the floor amidst the dancers, lending it a truly ethereal feel.
Cloud Gate Dance Theatre was formed in 1973, and was the first modern performing arts troupe its kind in Taiwan and Asia, later inspiring others such as China's Shen Yun Performing Arts. Despite a fire destroying their theatre and props in 2008, they successfully raised money to replace their production archives as well as the Taiwanese government donating a disused building for their future performances.
