Why see Birmingham Royal Ballet - Hobson's Choice?

Gleeful Comedy and Ballet Collide

A thoroughly British confectionary of dazzling dance and tunes you just can't help hum along to, Hobson's Choice was first performed at the Royal Opera House in London in 1989. Choreographed and devised by the Birmingham Ballet's artistic director David Bintley and set to music composed by Paul Reade, the man behind the immortal Antiques Roadshow and the Flumps theme songs, the joyful comic ballet has become a firm favorite of the ballet's repertoire since its inception.

Based on the play by English playwright Harold Brighthouse, Hobson's Choice follows feisty heroine Maggie, daughter of a drunkard father and shoe-shop owner. Not content with her lot in life in Edwardian Salford, she goes about changing her destiny - outsmarting her dad, falling in love and opening her own business in the process!
