The Royal Opera stage David McVicar’s Faust
Despite leading a life coloured by his many successes, Faust begins to grow wholly disenchanted with his lot, and as a consequence, a hunger for more begins to build within him. In a blinding fit of desperation, he calls on the devil, who offers him an irresistible deal: pleasure, youth and wisdom. What at first is a golden opportunity soon turns into a living nightmare, as Faust learns you must be careful what you wish for.
David McVicar's theatrical adaptation of Gounod's Faust is a devilish delight, showcasing the gothic magic of the seminal story like never before. Faust is a torch bearer for the operatic genre and remains a staple in the Royal Opera's repertoire. Starring Stefan Pop as the doomed scholar, alongside Erwin Schrott and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as the tricksy Mephistopheles.
