The Story of Dick

An old English folklore tale from the middle ages, we follow the story of Dick Whittington, a young man who was orphaned at an early age. Living in a quiet village, he plans to head to a place called London, as he has heard people describe it as being "paved with gold". Hoping to mine as much gold as possible from these streets, he heads off to the city with his beloved feisty pussy cat - only to find that reality is very different.

With the villainous rodent Queen Rat standing in his way of happiness, the Spirit steps in to help Dick save the city and win the hand of his beloved Alice - but will it be easier said than done?

Dick Whittington

A terrific family panto with plenty of laughs. Grandparents and four children 5 - 11 who absolutely adored it and said it was the best. They engaged with all the audience responses in full voice. No holding back. Really engaged with the cast. Great costumes especially for Dame Sarah, Queen rat and the cat and the final party gowns. There was a really lovely and lively atmosphere. I would definitely recommend. ... Read more

Dick Whittington New Wimbledon Theatre

This has got to be the best panto I’ve seen in donkey’s years. I really needed that! To have a good old laugh out loud without a care in the world. My cheeks ached from all the laughter. The jokes just came rolling in non-stop. My kids aged 9 and 11 were also enthralled. Shane Ritchie - I could watch him all day. He may have stole the show, but not far behind are all the other actors who brought together such a wonderful ensemble! Plus many of the actors were brought in at the last minute, due to illness from original cast members! Amazing! They all showed us exactly what theatre is all about - that tenacious spirit, that get up and go, being able to dive straight in and save a show from what would have been closure. With all the costume, lighting and background I felt I was in the West End. Well done to New Wimbledon Theatre for such a smashing start to the year 2022 and soon to be end of the kids Christmas holidays 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 ... Read more

Fantastic show

I saw Cinderella last year and booked ASAP for this years before the casting was announced. Im so glad I did as the idea of Elaine Paige in panto left me cold, lots of the other casting didnt grab me so watching the show last night I was so surprised, Elaine Paige was fine, Diversity were good, Paul Zerdin worked the audience with his usual patter which is fine if you havent seen it before but the rest were all absolutely fantastic. Right down to the hard working chorus. Fantastic sets, Amazing costumes brilliant effects and great band. A special mention to Gary Wilmot whose list song is a triumph. The anarchic slapstick song starts off weakly but builds to a roar. The innuendos are bawdy but wont spoil the kids fun only the prudes around them maybe. As soon as booking opens Ill be buying next years tickets ASAP. ... Read more
