A Russian triple bill takes over the Piccadilly Theatre

Following their 2011 season at the Noel Coward Theatre, the world-renowned Sovremennik Theatre from Russia return to the West End this year. With a triple bill of plays in Russian taking over the Piccadilly Theatre once vacated by Jersey Boys, the first play of the season will be Three Comrades, adapted from the acclaimed novelist Erich Remarque, who also wrote All Quiet On The Western Front. Taking us back to Depression-era Germany in 1928, we follow the changing fortunes of three desperate men, working as mechanics and trying to make sense of their chaotic surroundings. With one of them, Robert, traumatised by his experiences in the First World War, his despondant attitude is changed when he meets the woman of his dreams.

Three Comrades is directed by Sovremennik Theatre co-founder Galina Volchek, known for their inventive stagings of deep psychological dramas and fearless interpretations of various contemporary plays, both from Russia and across the world. The first of three works to be staged at the Piccadilly, this play will be followed by Two For The Seesaw and Sovremennik's acclaimed production of Chekhov's Three Sisters.
