Why see Grease?

ONE OF THE WORLD'S FAVOURITE MUSICALS

Electrifying, energized and entertaining, Jacobs and Casey's Grease the Musical is the world-renown smash-hit about teenage love, angst and overcoming social obstacles. It's a fast-paced rock 'n roll party that explodes with feel-good charm and spirited fun.

Directed by David Gilmore, Grease the Musical stars two winners of the TV-reality contest, with Danny Bayne as greaser Danny and Susan McFadden as the lovely Sandy. With vigorous choreography by Arlene Phillips, the original High School musical leaps to life, featuring all the favourite and unforgettable songs that have had audiences singing along for years, including 'Summer Nights', 'Hopelessly Devoted To You', 'Grease Is The Word', and, of course, 'Greased Lightnin'.

WHAT IS GREASE'S STORY?

It's 1959 and the start of a new school year. After having had a summer holiday flirtation, Danny and Sandy discover they are now co-students at Rydell High School. Though pleased to see her, Danny brushes her aside to keep up appearances amongst his greaser group, the T-Birds. Sandy, heart-broken, is both comforted and mocked by the comparatively-sophisticated girl group, The Pink Ladies. Sandy is invited to a pyjama party where her eyes are opened to experimentation: booze and boy-talk, cigarettes and ear-piercing. Sandy still struggles to fit in, all the more so when she arrives at a picnic to find everyone sharing a joke at her expense.

Social differences continue to stand in love's way for good-girl Sandy and tough-boy Danny. But as the youths all struggle through teenage pregnancy, gang violence, friendships and rivalries, gradually things change.

DID YOU KNOW?

Grease is named after a working-class youth subculture known as greasers. Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the musical was first staged Broadway in 1972 as a much more raunchy, vulgar and aggressive show that the modern versions. The 1978 film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John shot Grease into the public eye.
