Bat Out of Hell

Bat Out of Hell at Peacock Theatre

Why see Bat Out of Hell?

...Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

It is a truth universally acknowledged that most iconic concept albums worth their salt will eventually be adapted into a rock and roll musical experience to be enjoyed by euphoric audiences, and boy did Bat Out of Hell deliver! With 20 classic bops, including 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light', 'Heaven Can Wait' and more, this electrifying rock opera returns to the West end in 2025 to rev up audiences in the capital once more for this production in tribute to its dearly departed creator, Meatloaf and Jim Steinman, RIP. Expect an epic cast list with the return of Glenn Adamson, Sharon Sexton, and Rob Fowler in the roles of Strat, Sloane and Falco.

He'd do anything for love...

Following the fortunes of Strat, a young man stuck in a post-apocalyptic city, and his passionate romance with the beautiful daughter of Falco, the mad dictator in charge. Weaving together songs from both Bat Out of Hell I,II and III, this is a must see for fans of Steinman's highly charged songwriting that overflows with drama and theatrics.

Tonight is what it means to (pretend to) be young...

To be fair, as a massive fan of the late Jim Steinman, I knew I would love this before going. It didn't disappoint. Really well staged, great cast with some brilliant singing that was able to handle even the most demanding songs. Particular shout out to "Valkyrie" (Kellie Gnauck?) and her stunning rendition of "Objects in the Rear View Mirror". I saw Meat live when he was touring "Bat 2" and he was struggling a bit by then, so it was amazing to hear the music brought so vividly to life. The plot was secondary - basically JS's long-standing fascination with Peter Pan - but the subplot of the middle aged parents rediscovering their love and their youth while parenting a teenager frankly worked well given the demographic of the audience. ...
