Why see Singin' in the Rain?

FROM SILENCE TO SOUND, IN SPECTACULAR STYLE!

Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, Singin' in the Rain dives into the heart of the Hollywood film scene, where the silent days are rapidly waning and voice is the rising star. Adapted from the acclaimed 1952 movie with the same name, Jonathan Church's production is full of charm, comedy, romance and glamour.

Andrew Wright's superb choreography blends classic with sassy; Simon Higlett's superb design wows continuously, topped by explosive lighting by Tim Mitchell. Brought to life by a sterling cast and a soul-soaring musical score including the fond favourites 'Good Morning', 'Moses Supposes', 'Make 'Em Laugh' and 'Singin' in the Rain', this spectacular show has everything you could want in a smash-hit musical.

WHAT'S SINGIN' IN THE RAIN ABOUT?

It's 1927 and times are changing in Hollywood's movie scene. The days of the silent screen are waning and rumours of 'talking pictures' are rife. Don Lockwood has worked his way from humble beginnings to silent film fame and the world's most famous on-screen romance with the luscious Lina Lamont.

But when the first talking picture proves to be wildly successful, the pair's director decided the new Lockwood and Lamont film must be a 'talkie'. Not a problem for our dashing Don, who was once a musician, but Lina's voice is irreparably discordant, the future of the famed pair looks doomed until Don's sidekick Cosmo comes up with a plan. In search of an angelic voice, Lockwood finds what he's looking for - and more - in the aspiring actress Kathy Selden. But when Lina learns of their blossoming romance and plan, she is less than impressed.

DID YOU KNOW?

The 1952 film Singin' in the Rain made stars out of Debbie Reynold (who was only nineteen at the time) and Cyd Charisse, and solidified Gene Kelly's name as synonymous with the iconic scene where he sings the title song.

SmashTastic vibrancy, humour and stella cast

Oh my! Booked for Kevin clifton, yet wow! The whole cast was fab and Faye really stole my heart as Lina, absolute treasure. Cooper is a beautiful dancer and the iconic scene a treat. Charlotte lovely as Cathy, and Kevin as Cosmos just fab! Would love to also see Faye play Cathy although she did Lina so proud. Worth a visit and a fun evening to be had. Bit of dancing, singing and acting a lush blend for a theatre show all rounder set in the lovely Sadler's Wells theatre. ... Read more

What a show!

I don't know whether the show has improved since the reviews of certain people here in February of last year, but I personally found this show to be the most entertaining, upbeat and heartwarming musical that I have seen in a very long time (and I've seen a lot of the greats on both continents). When your 14 and 11 year old daughters rate it higher than Wicked and Mamma Mia on Broadway or the Wizard of Oz, Hairspray, Oliver, Cats, Phantom or Les Mis in London, you know it must have been something special. Catch the show and decide for yourself - just don't miss it and miss out on making the decision yourself. A well deserved standing ovation tonight. ... Read more
