The Turn of the Screw

The Turn of the Screw at Open Air Theatre

Why see The Turn of the Screw?

Chills, they're multiplying

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre join forces with the ENO for Benjamin Britten's opera, based on Henry James' chilling novella. A first-class ghost story, expect to be transported to the isolated Bly House in the middle of the 19th century where a young Governess discovers her new charges are harbouring some peculiar and terrifying secrets.

First written in 1898, The Turn of the Screw set the pace for the country house horror story, introducing us to a world of mysterious employers, cherubic yet knowing children and silent spectres with nefarious intentions. Britten composed the opera in 1954, to a libretto by Myfanwy Piper and what is now considered one of the finest English operas, has been unsettling eager audiences ever since.
