After a sometimes soggy, but successful run at The Regents Park Open Air Theatre, Crazy for You, the wildly eccentric reworking of The Gerswin's 1930 hit Girl Crazy, took to the Novello for a hit 6 month run. Displaying a smattering of songs from the source material, plumped up by a liberal dip into the famous Gershwin back catalogue, Crazy for You is a toe tapping and thigh slapping delight.
With show stopping numbers provided by Stephen Mear and Direction from Tim Sheader, the wacky plot involving cowboys colliding showbiz glitz was wonderfully handled and made for an enjoyable and exhilarating show.
Bobby so and so is a frustrated New York City banker with dreams of stardom. Cowed by his warring mother and fiance, he sets off for Deadwood, Nevada to help with the foreclosure of the run-down cow-town's theatre.
Not much happens in Deadwood, but when Bobby rolls into town, he finds himself falling in love with the town, and worthy adversary and tomboyish theatre owner Polly. This spurns a winding tale of mistaken identity, the trials of teaching cowboys to dance and ridiculous fun, as this caper in the middle of the desert unfolds!
