Dr. Seuss' The Lorax

An environmentally friendly show for Christmas
Why see Dr. Seuss' The Lorax?
PERFECT FOR CHRISTMAS
Adapted from Dr Seuss' favourite book, The Lorax portrays environmental issues in a friendly and engaging way for younger theatre fans and their families, in this new stage production for the Christmas season. Directed by Max Webster (To Kill A Mockingbird and James and the Giant Peach, David Greig has adapted the book from both the book and the 2012 movie of the same name.
The Lorax tells of an orange moustachioed and cantankerous forest-dwelling critter who's personal mission is to protect the earth from the greedy, tree-chopping, Thneed-knitting businessman known only as The Once-ler. A timely lesson on protecting our natural resources and species from extinction, this will engage everybody with an interest in environmental issues.
WHAT IS THE LORAX ABOUT?
The Once-ler was originally an innocent character trying to sell his invention (Thneeds aka. things that everyone needs). But for this, he needed to cut down a Truffula tree in a nearby forest. By cutting down the tree, he summoned the titular Lorax to appear from the stump of a Truffula tree. "Speaking for the trees, for the trees have no tongues" the Lorax warns the Once-ler of the consequences of cutting down all of the truffula trees, but the Once-ler ignored him, instead contacting all his relatives to help him with his business, and felling the trees. However, once the last tree has been cut down, the Once-ler's business falls into bankruptsy, his family abandons him, and there is nothing beautiful for him to enjoy. But there is hope for those who care about the trees; the Lorax and his friends will return.
