Three Sisters

Three Sisters at Noel Coward Theatre

Why see Three Sisters?

The performance centres around the revolving circle on the stage which represents the real world, full of pain and suffering. The bridge across it leads to a promised land and a different spiritual reality.

Three Sister's is one of Sovremennik’s most famous productions. Director Galina Volchek has directed this great play three times, each time finding new answers to the most existential questions.

The paradoxical nature of the play is crucially important for the director, who sees today's Three Sisters as a story of lost people, who are not capable of discovering themselves to the full, but who still want to change the world.

The Moscow-based Sovremennik Theatre is one of the giants of the Russian theatrical and artistic landscape. The company has toured extensively in Europe and America and were the first foreign company to win an American Drama Desk Award. Now the West End can experience Sovremennik’s stylish productions, with lavish, visually stunning scenery and costumes and performances honed on stages across the world.

Sovremennik’s strictly limited season at the Noël Coward Theatre, made possible with generous support from Roman Abramovich, features three plays over six days: Into the Whirlwind, Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. This is the first time in over 20 years a major Russian theatre company has performed in the capital.
