Lynette Linton directs fresh staging of Alterations
Director Lynette Linton (Blues for an Alabama Sky, Shifters) heads up a bold new staging of the award winning writer Michael Abbensetts' Alterations, at the National Theatre. This fresh production of the essential work features additional material by playwright Trish Cooke, bringing fresh urgency to a defining story of resilience, community and, ultimately, self-worth. Set against the backdrop of 1970s London, it paints a vivid portrait of the Windrush generation's struggle to carve out success in an often hostile new world.
Amid the whirr of sewing machines and the scent of freshly pressed fabric, Walker Holt is chasing a dream; one that could transform his modest tailor's shop into a business of real prestige. With an urgent commission from a high-profile client, he has just 24 hours to deliver perfection. But as the stitches tighten so does the pressure on his personal relationships, and Walker finds himself caught between ambition and integrity, where every decision carries weight far beyond the cut of a suit.
