Directed by Michael Buffong (A Kind Of People, All My Sons), Play On! pulses with Duke Ellington's unforgettable music and irresistible street dance as the backdrop to a celebration of courage and the pursuit of dreams. Conceived by American director Sheldon Epps (Blues In The Night, Purlie) and with book by Cheryl L. West, the show premiered in 1996 and transferred to Broadway in 1997. What Is The Story?
As Vy plots her future in Harlem's music scene, her uncle Jester warns her of the obstacles women face in trying to make it. But Vy won't be deterred. With wit and a daring disguise, she finds herself crossing paths with charismatic club owner The Duke and captivating singer Lady Liv. As the jazz flows and identities blur, Vy's world becomes a musical whirlwind; will she make it?
