Two sets of parents are bought together for a showdown after their two sons engage in a playground scrap, beginning an epic devolution of social decorum in this biting Olivier-winning dark comedy from Yazmin Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton.
Starring Freema Agyeman, Ariyon Bakae and Dinita Gohil, and Martin Hutson, the play was originally written by Reza and translated by Hampton in 2008. A savagely funny look at wealth, power, and prejudice and how quickly we crumble when our image of ourselves is attacked, direction comes from Nicholai La Barrie, who enthused: 'We're obsessed with the idea of social respectability, good manners and behaving in a civilised way. But what happens when those people who declare themselves as respectable, act in the very opposite way? God of Carnage will feel like sweet revenge for audiences. You'll recognise these characters, and you'll revel in their carnage."
Playtime begins September 1st at the Lyric Hammersmith.
