Pity

Why see Pity?

Two Bombs in One Day is a Foul Coincidence

Winner of the George Diving Award for Playwriting and the Royal Court Theatre's annual commission the Harold Pinter Prize, up and coming young playwright Rory Mullarkey is fast establishing a reputation as a bold new voice in modern British Theatre. Don't miss the world premiere of his latest work Pity, helmed by resident associate director Sam Pritchard and presented as part of the RCT's brand new 2018/19 season this Summer.

As with his previous works Wolf at the Door and St George and The Dragon, Mullarkey breaks new ground by combining state-of-the-nation sagas with elements of the surreal. Marrying sunshine, shopping and sandwiches with snipers, looting, bombs and lightning, the writer presents a "normal" day in an England not so far from our own, posing the question "Is the world getting worse?" and answering with another question "Do we really even care?"...
