Spamalot

Why see Spamalot?

AN UPROARIOUS PASTICHE OF THE HIT MONTY PYTHON FILM!

This loveable, laughable (but in a good way!) foray into musical theatre is the brain child of comedy legend Eric Idle and Mike Nichols. Taking a cheeky swipe at Idle's and the rest of the Pythons' 1975 comedy film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", the show has seen a succession of famous faces join the cast since opening in the West End in 2006, making for an ever-fresh repertoire of comedy!

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

As in "Holy Grail", this show tells the now-legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table - but with considerable differences from the film.

Whilst on his travels with his long-suffering squire Patsy, Arthur meets a motley band of characters to join his Round Table, beats an invasion by the French and ends up on a quest to find the mythical Holy Grail.

But being a Python musical, it's never going to be that simple. Here, there be show girls, cows, giant killer rabbits, fish-slapping Finnish people, effeminate knights, a Cher-esque diva, modern newscasters, political activists, a suspicious-looking Las Vegas-style castle, and even a West End musical to plan. It's chaotic, fun and irreverant - with more than just a dash of the dark humour we've come to expect.

DID YOU KNOW?

The name Spamalot is a reference to a line in the original film, as explained by writer Eric Idle, "We eat ham, and jam and Spam a lot." The original Broadway version where it originated, won three Tony Awards in 2004/5, after receiving a record 14 nominations!

Crazy, funny, brilliant!

Palace Theatre London on 19 Aug 08. Excellent show - but if balcony seats get in front row as view is limited and you are up near the roof. Acting, sets, lighting, timing, choreography etc superb - especially the ad-libs with the audience member and the supreme silliness. Those of a sensitive or politically correct nature and foreigners with no sense of humour should avoid this show. Recognise the old familiar characters excellently portrayed. Enjoy the audience singalong with the cast. Seat D1 in the stalls is the best in the house! ... Read more

Brilliant BUT....

Absolutely brilliant show - could not be faulted HOWEVER... be careful when booking seats at the Palace Theatre- £20 seats on the balcony have limited view AND you will be seated approx 100 feet up, strangely enough no-one will tell you this and it then costs an extra £15 per person to change seats, if they are available! I would recommend seeing the show - the cast are FAB - don't say Ni to Spamalot! ... Read more
