Company

Why see Company?

Nominated for nine Olivier awards

Last chance to see this nine-time Olivier award nominee, must close March 30!

Broadway royalty Patti Lupone makes a triumphant return to the West End stage in the nine-time Olivier award nominated revival of Company! Last fully staged in London in 1995, this brand new production also features Olivier nominee Rosalie Craig as 'Bobbi', the woman whose 35th birthday party becomes the central theme of the show.

First seen in 1970, Company was like no other Broadway musical of the time, innovating the usual plot lines with a fresh series of vignettes that connect the intersecting lives and relationships of the characters. Songs such as 'Ladies Who Lunch', 'Getting Married Today' and 'Company' showcase Sondheim at his most sublime and manipulative.

What's the story?

Bobbi, traditionally Robert up till now, is celebrating her 35th birthday in the company of her friends, all of whom are either married or engaged. Through a series of visits with the couples we learn that the well-liked Bobbi has trouble with commitment as evidenced in her numerous affairs, but still hopes to find the right person for her. As each group has its say on Bobbi's singledom and marriage prospects (and state of their own), Company begins to question the old adage that the grass is greener on the other side.

For over thirty years Patti LuPone has thrilled audiences with a mixture of her stunning pipes and ever present sass. A true queen of the theatre, she has won two Tony and Grammy Awards for her achievements. Do not miss what is sure to be a fantastic chance to see her in her element.

Profound, Refreshing, Brilliant

In a production that could be dubbed an 'Instagrammer's dream' Company explodes back onto the stage! This time though it's a magical gender-swapped revamp of the classic Sondheim musical.

Superlative cast, music and staging

So yes, I’m a Sondheim fan. I’ve seen an amateur performance of Company and I play the music a lot. But this updated version with its female Bobbie takes the musical to a whole new level. When I first saw Company I was single and was struck most by its wisdom about being single: now I’m married, and it rings so true about this too! The staging is brilliant and innovative - no spoilers - but never takes away from the lyrics and score. We sat in the centre stalls and felt immersed in it all. ... Read more

How could this ever have worked with a man?

In a preview audience packed with Sondheim fans, this was a knock- out evening. Rosalie Craig gives Bobbi such a fresh, moving and witty interpretation that it’s difficult to visualise the part could ever be performed by a man. As for the rest - well, Patti Lupone is a bitter, superlative Joanne, and Amy becomes Jamie in one of the many show- stopping numbers. It’s the funniest production I have seen as well as the most poignant with its moments of utter emptiness. Well done Marianne Elliott for your audacity in reimagining this classic. I loved it so much I have already booked to see it again. ... Read more
