Why see Chicago?
ONE OF THE WEST END'S LEADING EXTRAVAGANZAS
Slick and smoky 1920s Chicago showbiz sets the scene for this world-renown tale of murder, manipulation and lust for the limelight. Based on Maurine Dallas Watkins' play with the same name and based on real-life criminals, Chicago is an insatiable masterpiece that keeps audiences coming back for more. Chicago is one of the longest running Broadway shows in the West End, with over six thousand performances. Creators John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse jazzed up the devilish yarn with spectacular choreography and a now-classical musical score, making Chicago treacherously seductive and theatrically unstoppable.
TELL THE TALE
Chicago plunges into the life of small-time chorus girl Roxy Hart, who is locked up in the Cook County Jail after murdering her sweet-talking lover when his promises of launching her into the 'bigtime' fall short. Here she meets Velma Kelly, double-murderess and fallen vaudevillian star, and Flynn, slick lawyer and showman in his own rite who twists truths and tangles tales of cold-blooded actions and hot-blooded beauties.
Taken with the newest arrival in Cook County Jail, Billy turns his attentions from Velma to Roxy, ready to transform her story from sinister to sensational. Roxy and Velma ride the infamy of their murders in a dark and dangerous game of rivalry, greed and exploitation. But when facts are flexible and winning is everything, what rules does notoriety play by?
