Must end January 6th, 2018
An American in Paris is the cherished tale of a young artist discovering life and love after the war. This brand new adaptation promises to present the story afresh for a new generation of audiences, whilst keeping the heart of Gershwin's beloved, witty and elegant musical. It's Broadway counterpart won a total of four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Choreography for its wondrous dance sequences.
First seen in the form of a symphonic poem in 1928, Gershwin intended the show to be a love-letter to his time in Paris as a young man, suggesting the energy and vitality of the city. It was adapted as a movie in 1951 by Vincente Minnelli (Liza's dad) for MGM, and starred the legendary Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in the central roles. It won six Academy Awards and cemented Kelly as the quintessential presence in American dance.
I GOT RHYTHM! : THE STORY OF AN AMERICAN IN PARIS
To be young and restless in Paris is a dream for many of us, but in the late 1940's, it's the buoyant Jerry Mulligan's life. After escaping the horrors of the war, he moves to the city of romance in the hopes of avoiding the daily grind and making it as a painter. Aided by wealthy fellow American Milo Davenport, his reputation is on the up, but his heart is stolen by the ingenue, Lise. Day dreaming and dancing, with the Gershwin's wonderful score, An American in Paris celebrates the best in life, in true Parisian style!
