Julius Caesar

Why see Julius Caesar?

Beware the ides of march

As Rome celebrates the return of their leader Caesar after a victory in battle, a conspiracy is growing beneath the surface. Caesar has absolute power, surely it will not be long until he begins to abuse his position. Convinced of a threat to the city, Cassius persuades the moral Brutus that something must be done. Don't miss this all-new promenade staging of Shakespeare's explosive tragedy, where honor, friendship, and patriotism are tested to violent ends for the sake of the greatest empire in history.

Featuring David Calder as the doomed autocrat alongside Ben Whishaw (The Hour, James Bond's Q) and Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones) as scheming Brutus and Cassius and David Morrisey (Hangmen, The Walking Dead) as rabble rousing Mark Antony, Nicolas Hytner's new production will bring the audience right to the heart of the action as you follow the undoing of Rome, the horror of Ceasar's murder and the glory his funeral and the horror of civil war.

Not perfect but close

Overall this is an exceptional production that works extremely well. The balance and pace of the production are thoughtful and satisfying. The temporal transposition, so suitable for this play works beautifully. Highly recommended. Cassius, Caesar and Anthony are all superb throughout. Brutus grows through the evening but ultimately seemed miscast in this particular role. View from 3A was good, but you really had to sit forward much of the time. Sorry to those in 3B behind. The promenaders below must have had a great experience, but they surely needed stamina for 2 hours. Ate at Tom Simmons around the corner beforehand - also excellent food and reasonable prices (with good veggie choices). All in all an unforgettable first visit to the Bridge. ... Read more
