Fresh from it's Off-West End Award-nominated run at the Southwark Playhouse in 2016, cult rock musical The Toxic Avenger transfers to the Arts Theatre this September for a three-month autumn run! Written by Joe DiPietro with music by David Bryan, this 2008 rock musical from the States is based on the 1984 movie of the same name. Winning accolades from both critics and audiences alike, the musical follows an avenging superhero with a heart of gold as he attempts to save New Jersey from a poisonous slime that is threatening to engulf it. Oh, and try to have a love life at the same time.
However, his efforts haven't gone unnoticed by the corrupt Mayor and her equally unsavoury goons. Determined to get rid of the pesky Melvin, she has him tossed into a vat of the toxic goo - only for him to emerge with superpowers; The Toxic Avenger! With a little help from his friends, Melvin declares war on the Mayor, leading to a massive uprising by the grateful inhabitants. But the price is high, as not everybody will make it to the end. Lauded by the New York press as anarchic fun, this is one musical where you'll want to get your hands dirty!
