Cameron's Retrograde comes to the Apollo
Ryan Calais Cameron's Retrograde takes to the Apollo stage following its sold-out success at Kilburn's Kiln Theatre! The play brings to life the tension of a moment in Hollywood history, as Sidney Poitier contemplates a career-making contract laced with dangerous compromises. Directed by Amit Sharma, Retrograde stars Ivanno Jeremiah, whose portrayal of Poitier at the Kiln was hailed by the press, alongside Stanley Townsend and Oliver Johnstone. Following the critical triumph of For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy, Cameron cements his reputation as one of the most vital voices in contemporary theatre.
The cost of fame is steep and the price of integrity even higher. Ten years prior to Sydney Poitier becoming the first black man in history to win an Oscar for best actor, the contract he is offered comes with a weighty choice: betray his principles or risk losing everything. Standing at the brink of history, will he choose fame or stay true to his morals?
