Asa Butterfield To Make Stage Debut In Second Best

Best known for his role as Otis in Netflix hit show Sex Education, Asa Butterfield will take on this one-man play written by Barney Norris, based on David Foenkinos' novel by the same name. Butterfield will play Martin Hill, who as a child missed out on playing the famous role of Harry Potter. Now, as adult life intensifies with a child on the way, Martin reflects on this crucial moment and the what ifs' it conjures up.
Asa Butterfield stated Second Best is "equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking" and is extremely excited to bring Norris and Foenkinos' work to life at Riverside Studios.
Directed by Michael Longhurst and produced by Simon Friend, the latter details his immediate need to tell the story on stage after reading the novel last year. Friend describes the story as a coming-of-age tale of success and failure, love and loss, and fathers and sons'. He asserts that the cast and crew involved are "most definitely not second best".
The performance will run from 24 January to 22 February 2025 at Riverside Studios.
