Spectacular
Despite all those negative reviews I thoroughly enjoyed the show and so did all the audience in the Hammersmith Apollo theatre. The CGI added to the stage scenarios and the costumes and music was of a very high standard. Would thoroughly recommend.
Disappointed
Had looked forward to seeing the show after reading reviews of other performances and was very disappointed. The costumes were beautiful, the scenery well done and the cast excellent, it was the choreography and the overall content of the show that disappointed. I was not the only one as others said the same during the interval. I had an excellent seat and a good view and am glad I went to see it but would not recommend it. It is certainly a show that all ages could go to see but prepared to be bored at times.
Oversold and underwhelmed
I would not reccomend this performance, I must give credit to the advertising campaign for doing such a great job at miss leading people. There were some positives, the costumes were creative, unique and at times very beautiful to observe. Some of the choreography was well rehearsed and impressive to watch. The orchestra certainly added to the performances and made for a nice backdrop. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. This performance was riddled with political agenda against communist China, childish slapstick comedy, and blatant promotion of Fulun. The fluency of the performance was completely lost with the addition of two hosts, which while sometimes necessary to understand the piece, were in equal parts annoying and overused. The CGI backdrop was an awful decision, think 2000s video game graphics, completely ruined the idea of a professional performance. Even the choreography became repetitive and unimaginative Overpriced! Save your money and miss this one.
AMAZING COSTUMES AND DANCE BUT THAT WAS ABOUT IT!
2 ** was for the costumes! This was a Xmas present from my partner as he thought I would really enjoy it having grown up in Hong Kong. Well couldn't have been more wrong! The costumes were stunning and the choreography was very good (male dancers pretty boring) but I was expecting something out of this world, Cirque du Soleil standards but no. With the 2 commentators, it was like watching the Eurovision Song Contest and the next act is ...... completely rubbish. We left at the interval as did another couple in front of us. . It is definitely something I wouldn't take a child to see either. Don't waste your money - an expensive evening which could have rather be spent elsewhere!!
Stunning start followed by propaganda
The other reviews say it all. Initially beautiful but then the choreography became very repetitive and uninspired. The worst aspect of the show was the blatant Falang Gong propaganda. The pre show information was extremely misleading. The 2 singers were dreadful. Innovative use of enormous back projection screen. If you’re looking for an insight into Chinese culture prepare to have your horizons limited. In terms of the Google world, I suspect there’s some biasing taking place??
So disappointed
Dancing lovely as were costumes, but the narration was TERRIBLE, . it was like an amateur production, and as for the 2 singers, they were cringeworthy. Very badly put together. I travelled 300 miles to see this and was very disappointed. They have given themselves a bad name this year.
