Brilliant interpretation
The mixed genres (Shakespeare with a little punk and jazz on the side) build together harmoniously, and the casting adds another dimension of meaning to this portrait of a villain. Loved it!
Brilliant
My wife and I saw this last night. This is theatre at it's very very best....something to die for. Spacey is magnificient. His magnetism, dynamism and sheer acting ability holds the audience spellbound. He will certainly be known as one of the greats. The supporting cast are excellent and play a big part in what will undoubtedly be the Shakespeare production of the year. Extremely well produced and directed with verve and imagination. If you can get a ticket don't miss it....A standing ovation at the end says it all...
Powerful and gripping
Was there last night. Paid full price and was not disappointed. Kevin Spacey is in a class of his own. How often do you get the whole house giving a standing ovation? Can't understand the earlier poor reviews. This is not a play I know intimately but followed everything with ease. The performance was gripping; Kevin Spacey's sheer force and energy were amazing.
Richard III
I saw this last night. Fabulous. I've seen Jude Law, Patrick Stewart and Derek Jacobi all doing Shakespeare, BUT last night? WOW. Amazing and Shakespeare so well done. No over acting here just speechless really. I know my history and I know my Shakespeare. Sam Mendes has cleverly interpreted Shakespeares villanous take on Richard III (which history tells us is incorrect) and the use of propaganda and murder to get what he wants but adding the final twist of facing your ultimate critic; God and your consience. Marvellous. Gemma Jones as Queen Margaret was great too, as was the chap who played Hastins.
Get a ticket while you can
I went to see Richard lll last night and loved it so much that I have already booked to go again. The analogy with some current political regimes works very well and Kevin Spacey portrays superbly the different facets of Richard lll. All in all, not to be missed.
Richard III: rides without “A Horseâ€
We were treated to a less than traditional Richard, but that is by no means a downer. The music is amazing, Michelle Terry “killed†l as Richard. Helen Schlesinger’s Buckingham is the perfect accomplice. Villainy never looked this much fun and so tempting. The rest of the cast hit their marks perfectly. Big hooray for the two junior actors, who really seemed to enjoy squaring up with Gloucester. If I was disappointed in anything, IF, it would be the altered ending. Richards horseless ending, has been taken out. The finale is strong and joyful and gets the crowd on their feet, but Id have loved to seen Richard completed in their misery. But what fun we had watching it all unfold.
