With the flip of a coin denoting which actor will play the titular monarch or her sister Elizabeth I, this stunning hit from the Almeida has opened to great acclaim. Retaining Williams and Stevenson for its West End transfer, the production has been called by turns 'Magnificent' (Evening Standard) and 'Riveting' (Financial Times).
Each dressed in velvet suits and sporting identical gamine haircuts, the leads bitterly mirror each other as the action plays out and whilst it plays fast and loose with history, its a truly thrilling display of the power of theatre.
