1. The Lion King has won more than 70 major awards!

Yes, you read that right! The Lion King has not only proved popular with audiences members all over the world but also the theatrical big wigs! Their list of awards include; the Tony Award for Best Musical, the Olivier Award for Best Costume Design and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album! 

2. The Lion King debuted in Minneapolis, Minnesota 

In a time long gone by, okay 1997, The Lion King debuted in Minneapolis! Dubbed as an 'out-of-town tryout' The Lion King opened at the Orpheum Theatre on the 8th of July, 1997. It was an overnight sensation and transferred to Broadway that very same year! 


3. It takes around 114 people to prepare each performance of The Lion King!

If you've seen The Lion King you know how huge the show is! From that spellbinding opening sequence to the Stampede every character, animal and piece of set need to be ready to go. No wonder the production team is the size of a small army!

4. Seven different languages are used in The Lion King!

Although we know that The Lion King is set somewhere on the great continent of Africa its precise location is never pinpointed. This means that Zulu, Xhosa, Swahili, Sotho, Tswana, Congolese and English are all featured in this epic production! FUN FACT: Did you know that 'Simba' is the Swahili for Lion?!

5. The tallest animal in The Lion King is 18 ft tall!

Can you guess which animal it is? Yes, you guessed it the giraffe! The giraffe scales above the rest of the animal cast with the smallest animal, the mouse at the end of Scar's staff, measuring at just five inches!
